 பிரதோஷப் பாடல் - 40

இன்றைய பிரதோஷப் பாடலுடன் காஞ்சி ஏகாம்பரநாதர் கோவில் தலத்தைப் பற்றிய வரலாறையும் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்.

ஏமகூட* மேருமலையை வில்லாய் வளைத்தவன் 

வாமபாக தேகமீதில் தேவியைத் தரித்தவன் 

காமநாசன் ஆமிரேசன்** பேரைப்பாடி வணங்கிடும் 

பாமரற்கும் சேமகாலம் ஆமளவும்*** அளிப்பனே 

 

* ஏமகூடம்= மேருமலை 

** ஆமிரேசன்= மாமரத்தினடியில் அமர்ந்துள்ள ஈசன் 

*** ஆமளவும் = எப்பொதும் , கூடிய விரைவில் 

"eka" means one and "amaram" means mangoe tree. Legend has it that Parvathi was sitting under the mangoe tree in the temple and was performing penance. Wanting to test her, Lord shiva, directed fire at her. Parvathi took the help of Vishnu, who colled the fire using the rays of the moon. Then Shiva sent the river Ganga but Parvathi convinced her that both of them were sisters and that she should not disturb her penance. After completing her penance, Parvathi was united with Shiva.
