குறள் மேல்வைப்பு வெண்பா -17

விருந்தோம்பல் அதிகாரத்தில் வரும் ஒரு குறள் இது :

வித்தும் இடல் வேண்டும் கொல்லோ விருந்தோம்பி 
மிச்சின் மிசைவான் புலம்                                                         (குறள் 85)

இதன் பொருள் : வரும் விருந்தினரை அவர்கள் முகம் மலர உபசரித்து அவர்களுக்கு அளித்தது போக, மிகுதியைத் தான் உண்ணும் தன்மைபடைத்தவருடைய நிலத்திற்கு விதை விதைக்கவும் தேவையில்லை. பயிர்கள் தாமே வளரும் என்பதாகும்.

இது குறித்த ஒரு நிகழ்வு.

இளையான்குடி மாறன் நாயனார் ஒரு சிவபக்தர்; நல்ல செல்வந்தர். சிவனடியார்களை வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்து விருந்தளித்து மகிழ்விப்பதையே தன வாழ்நாளின் கடமையாக எண்ணினார். அவருக்கு வாய்த்த மனைவியும் அத்தகையாரே ! கொடுத்துக்  கொடுத்து தன்  செல்வம் சிறுத்து வறுமை நிலையை அடைந்தபோதும் இப்பணியைத் தொடர்ந்து செய்து வந்த மாறனார்  இல்லத்திற்கு, நல்ல மழை பெய்துகொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு இரவுப்  பொழுதில்  ஒரு சிவனடியார் வருகை தந்தார்.  அந்த அடியார் வேறு யாருமல்ல- மாறனாரை  சோதிக்க விரும்பிய சிவபிரான்தான்! 

அவரை வரவேற்று அமரச்செய்தனர் மாறனார்  தம்பதியினர். வீட்டிலே ஒரு குன்றுமணி அரிசி கூட இல்லாத நிலைமை ! சிவனடியாருக்கு எங்கனம் உணவு படைப்பது? அன்று காலையில்தான் அவர்களிடம் இருந்த விதை நெல்லை கொல்லை நிலத்தில்  விதைத்திருந்ததை  நினைவு படுத்தினார் மாறனாரின் மனைவி.

மாறனார்  கொட்டும் மழையில் நிலத்திற்கு  விரைந்து , நிலத்தில் விதைத்திருந்த நெல்விதைகளை எடுத்து வந்தார். அவரது மனைவியார் அதை சமைக்க, வந்த சிவனடியாருக்கு உணவு படைக்க விரைந்தனர்  அத்தம்பதியர்.

அவர்கள் செயலால் மனம் மகிழ்ந்த சிவபெருமான், தன்  நிஜஉருவில்,  மாறனார் தம்பதியினருக்கு காட்சியளித்து அருள் புரிந்தார்.

விதை நெல்லையே விருந்தினருக்கு அளித்த மாறனார் , மேற்கூறிய   விருந்தோம்பல்     குறளையும்  மிஞ்சிய ஒரு  எடுத்துக்காட்டு!

இந்தக்  கதையை மேல்வைத்த ஒரு குறள் மேல்வைப்பு வெண்பாவை அளிக்கிறேன்.

Meaning 

Is it necessary to sow the field of the man, who , having feasted his guests, eats what may remain?

The story in English:

Maranar was born  at Ilayankudi of tamil nadu. 

He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shivaâ. He took the greatest pleasure in serving them and considered that as Maheswara pooja.

Years rolled by and Nayanar's wealth melted away due to his charity. His wealth had left him, but not his virtue.  Nayanar sold all his property  in order to be able to serve the devotees of the Lord. One day there was a heavy downpour. Nayanar and his wife were starving for the whole day. No one came forward to help them. Finally, he bolted the door and was about to fall asleep. Just then he heard a knock at the door, and, on opening it, found a sage standing in front of the house, fully drenched with rain. Nayanar at once took the guest inside, dried his body and gave him fresh clothes to wear. He requested the sage to have dinner at his home and told his wife of to prepare some food. But both of the couple know that there was nothing to offer the devotee of the Lord. At that time Nayanar's wife suggested that he could go into the backyard and collect the grain-seeds that they had just sown that day.  As soon as he brought the grains, the wife cooked them, and with the help of some greens that grew in their own backyard, cooked a nice dinner for the guest. Nayanar was very happy and thanked the almighty for helping him at this situation..He then went to awaken the guest, but he found that the sage had disappeared. At the same time, Nayanar saw in sky, Lord Siva and Mother Parvathy blessing him and his wife. The Lord said that he was immensely pleased with their devotion to his bhaktas and both of them will very soon reach his Abode and live there for ever.
