பள்ளிக்கூடம் சென்றார்கள் - முதல் முறையாக -

Their First Visit To School 

Ezhil, aged eight years, and Thamarai, his younger sister ,

Both went to school today

For the first time -

When their huts in the low lying area got flooded

And the government moved them

To the Corporation school nearby for safety!

பள்ளிக்கூடம் சென்றார்கள் - முதல் முறையாக -

கூவத்தின் கரையில் உள்ள

குடிசைக் குடியிருப்புகளில் வசிக்கும்

எட்டு வயது எழிலும் அவன்  தங்கை தாமரையும்

இன்று பள்ளிக்கூடம் சென்றார்கள் - முதல் முறையாக -

தாழ்வான சேரிகளில் வசிக்கும்

வெள்ளத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மக்களை

அரசு,  மாநகராட்சிப் பள்ளிகளில்

தற்காலிகமாகக் குடியேற்றியபோது!
