மலையத்துவசனை அழைத்த படலம் 

சென்ற பாடலில் , கடலாடச் செல்ல விழைந்த தடாதகையின் தாயான காஞ்சனமாலையின் விருப்பததைத் தீர்க்கும் பொருட்டு, ஏழு கடல்களையும் மதுரைக்கு கொண்டுவந்து ஒரு குளத்தில் இட்ட இறைவனின் திருவிளையாடலைக் கண்டோம். அத்திருவிளையாடல் தொடர்கிறது :

பாடல் 

மணமுடித்த கணவன்கரம்  பற்றியே  கடலாடல் மெத்தவும்  சிறந்ததெனினும்
கணவனோ காலம்பல முன்னரே  உயிர்விடுத்து மேலுலகம் சென்றபடியால்
எங்கனமி தியலுமென மங்கை நல்லாளுமே  மதிமயங்கி நின்றநேரம் 
சங்கரரு மவள்துணையை  மீண்டும் உயிர்ப்பித்து கடலாடக்  கொண்டுவந்தார் .

பாடற்பொருள் :

கடலாடும்பொழுது கணவனின் கரம் பற்றி நீராடுதலே மிகவும் சிறந்தது என்பர் சான்றோர். ஆயினும், காஞ்சனமாலையின் கணவன் மலையத்துவச மன்னன் பல ஆண்டுகள் முன்னமே மேலுலகம் அடைந்துவிட்டபடியால் இது இயலாதென அவள் மனம் வருந்தி மயங்கியிருக்கையில், அவள் குறையைத் தீர்க்க சிவபெருமானும் மலையத்துவசனை உயிர்ப்பித்து மேலுலகிலிருந்து மதுரைக்கு மீண்டும் கொண்டு வந்து, காஞ்சனமாலையின்  கைபிடுத்து கடலாடச் செய்தான்.

ஏழு கடல் நீரையையும் சிவபெருமான் மதுரைக்கு கொண்டுவந்த பின் அந்நீரில் நீராடத்  தயாரான காஞ்சனமாலை, நீராடும் விதிமுறைகளைப்  பற்றி நீதி நூல் கற்றறிந்தோரிடம் வினவினாள்.  அவர்களும் கணவன் கை , மகனின் கை  அல்லது பசுங்கன்றின் வால்  இவற்றில் எதாவது ஒன்றைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டு கடலாடுதலே முறை எனக் கூறினர். கணவன் முன்னரே உயிர் நீத்து விட்டிருந்ததாலும் , மகன் இல்லாததாலும் கன்றின் வாலே கதி என்று வருத்தமுற்றாள் காஞ்சனமாலை. அவள் குறையை உணர்ந்த சிவபெருமான் இந்திரலோகத்தில் இருந்த மலையத்துவசனை புஷ்பகவிமானத்தில் ஏற்றி மதுரைக்கு கொண்டு வந்தார். மனைவியின் கரம் பிடித்து கடலாடுவாய் எனவும் பணித்தார். காஞ்சனமாலையும் கணவன் கரம் பிடித்து கடலாடிய பிறகு இருவரும் இவ்வுலகை விடுத்து கைலாசம் சென்று அடைந்தனர்.

Story in English

After Lord Shiva brought the seven seas to Madurai, Kanchanamaalai was readying herself to take the holy dip in the sea water. At that time she asked the sgaes about the procedure to be followed by her. She was told that according to the scriptures, the ritual of taking a bath in the holy waters of the Seas is most effective when the Lady does it holding her husbands hand. When that is not possible, she can either do that holding the hands of her son. When even that is not possible, she can take a dip holding the tail of a calf. 

As Malayaththuvasan, the husband of Kaanchanmaalai, had left the world long ago, and as she did not have have male offspring, kanchanamaala was disappointed and resigned herself to carry out the ritual holding the tail of a calf. 

Lord Siva, who understood the mind of His devotee, made Malayaththuvasan to descend from the SwargaLogam, in human form , to Madurai so that Kanchanamalai could take the holy dip in the sea holding the hands of her husband. After this was done, both of them left this world for Kailasam.
