குறள் மேல்வைப்பு வெண்பா - 1 ( the Kural with a story )- 1
Thirukkural is called Tamil Marai - meaning The Vedas in Tamil Language.
It contains 1330 Kurals. Each Kural , as the name implies, is a small poem , in two lines.
The Kurals have a message for us to follow. There are stories of great men and women who have lived true to these messages.
I have taken a small step to bring out the beauty and lessons of Kurals to those who are not familiar with it / have lost touch with it.
I have composed a poem in the Venba format , in four lines. Reproducing the Kural , in its original form in the third and fourth line, in the first two lines I relate a well known story which brings out the essence of the Kural.
Also appended is an English version of the Kural , in poetic form, written by Rev. Pope and others.

தஞ்சமென வந்தடைந்த
வெண்பறவை யைக்காக்க
அஞ்சாமல் தந்தான் சிபிமன்னன் -
தஞ்சதையை ; !
அன்பிலார் எல்லாம்
தமக்குரியர் அன்புடையார்
என்பும் உரியர்
பிறர்க்கு.:
Lines 1 and 2 __The white dove, (chased by the vulture ), sought refugee with King Sibi , who unhesitatingly , cut and gave his own flesh (to the vulture and saved the Dove.)
Lines 3 and 4 - Those who are destitute of love , appropriate all they have to themselves ; But those who possess love consider even their bones to belong to others.
The Kural - in English -
The Loveless to themselves belong alone
the loving men are others' to the very bone.

இத்தொடருக்கு ஓர் பெயர் வைத்தால் நன்று என்று கருதுகிறேன்.
’கனித்தோட்டம் கருத்து மேல்வைப்பு வெண்பா’ எனலாமா?
தஞ்சமென வந்தடைந்த என்ற வெண்பாவை இப்படியே http://www.avalokitam.com என்ற தளத்தில் இட்டு ஆராய்ந்தால் பலவிகற்ப இன்னிசை வெண்பா என்று வருகிறது. இப்பாடலில் ’தன்சதையை’ என்ற சொல்லில் ஒரே எழுத்து ன் என்பதற்குப் பதில் ஞ் என்று ’தஞ்சதையை’ என்று மாற்றினால் சொல்லும், பொருளும் மாறாமலும், கோடிட்டு தனிச்சொல்லாக்கினால் இரு விகற்ப நேரிசை வெண்பாவாக ஆகிவிடும்.

அஞ்சாமல் தந்தான் சிபிமன்னன் - தஞ்சதையை;
அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் அன்புடையார்
என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு.
குறட்பாவின் இரண்டடிகளிலும் ஒரே எதுகையா அல்லது இரண்டு எதுகையா என்பதற்குத் தக்க ஒருவிகற்ப, இருவிகற்ப, பல விகற்ப அளவடி வெண்பாக்கள் அமைகின்றன.

பொருளுரையும், கருத்தும், கதையும்:
வெற்றி தோல்வியை நடுவுநிலையில் சொல்லும் Referee யாக நாரணனை வைத்து, சிவனும், உமையும் சூதாடும் பொழுது உமை வென்று சிவன் தோற்க, நாரணன் சிவன் வென்றார் உமை தோற்றார் என்று நடுநிலை தவறிச் சொன்னதால் உமை நாரணனை பெரும்பாம்பாக ஆகும்படி சபித்ததால், அக்கணமே நாரணர் பெரும்பாம்பாக வீழ்ந்தது சிவபுராணம் கூறுகிறது. கண்டதைச் சொல்லாததால், அப்பெரும்பாம்பும் குருட்டுப் பாம்பாய் வீழ்ந்ததாம்.
எனவே, தன் நெஞ்சம் நடுவுநிலை நீங்கித் தவறு செய்ய நினைக்குமாயின், நான் கெடப்போகின்றேன் என்று ஒருவன் அறிய வேண்டும் என்ற கருத்துச் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.
