விகாரி என்னும் புத்தாண்டின்
-----யுகாதி* நாளின்று பிறக்கையிலே
விகாரம் விலக்கிய சமுதாய
-----சகாப்தம் தொடங்கிட வாழ்த்துக்கள்
மிகாத அளவில் மழை பெய்து
-----நதிகள் நிரம்பிட வாழ்த்துக்கள்
தகாத செயல்கள் செய்தவர்கள்
-----திகாரில் அடைபட வேண்டுதல்கள்
சகோத ரத்துவம் பெருகிடவும்
-----சமதர் மங்கள் நிலைத்திடவும்
மகோன்னத மகிமை நம்நாடு
------அடைந்து முன்னே சென்றிடவும்
இவ்வாண் டனைத்தும் இனிதாகி
-----செய்காரியங்கள் சிறந்திடவும்
வெவ்வினை விட்டே அகன்றிடவும்
-----செவ்வேள் சண்முகன் அருள்புரிக.
* யுகாதி = யுக+ஆதி =ஆண்டின் (யுகத்தின்) முதலாவது

I welcome the arrival of Chithirai month, but not the Tamil Nnew year, because none of the names of Tamil years is in tamil - Prabhav, Vibhav and so on. As a school boy I could reel of all 60 meaningless words in one breath and that is all. Did any tamil scholar try to give tamil names?
